About Us

Who We Are
The Enfield Community Federal Credit Union was originally chartered on October 19, 1936, as the Bigelow-Sanford Employee's Credit Union. The original field of membership consisted of the carpet mill's employees. There were seven different department credit unions within the company. However in 1946, the seven credit unions were merged into one.


In 1971, when the Bigelow Sanford Carpet Mills moved south, the Credit Union was granted a community charter and an expanded field of membership. However, it was not until 1980 that our current charter was finally expanded to include anyone who lives or works in Enfield and their family members.

We are proud of our history and the ability to offer a wide variety of financial services that meets the evolving needs of our community.

What is a Credit Union?
Credit unions are financial institutions formed by an organized group of people with a common bond. Members of credit unions pool their assets to provide loans and other financial services to each other.

Credit unions differ from other banks in several ways:

Operated by unpaid volunteer boards Controlled by paid boards

These factors allow credit unions to pay dividends to their members (not shareholders) and offer them lower loan rates, higher savings rates and fewer service fees.

0 The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) is the federal agency that charters and supervises federal credit unions. They also insure savings in federal and most state-chartered credit unions across the country through the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF), a federal fund backed by the full faith and credit of the United States government.


                                                  Notice of Changes in Temporary NCUA Insurance Coverage for Transactions Accounts   

                                                  All funds in a "noninterest-bearing transaction account" are insured in full by the                                           

                                                  National Credit Union Administration through December 31, 2012.  This temporary

                                                  unlimited coverage is in addition to, and separate from, the coverage of at least $250,000

                                                  available to members under the NCUA's general share insurance rules.  The term

                                                  "noninterest-bearing transaction account" includes a traditional share draft account

                                                 (or demand deposit account) on which the insured credit union pays no interest or dividend.

                                                 It does not include any transaction account that may earn interest or dividends, a negotiable

                                                 order of withdrawal (Now") account, money market deposit account, and Interest on Lawyers

                                                 Trust Account ("IOLTA"), even is share drafts may be drawn on the account.  For more

Who is eligible to join?
Membership is open to anyone who lives, works or worships in the town of Enfield and their families. To join, stop into our office and speak to a member of our staff. Joining is easy! It only takes $20.00 to open a Share Savings Account.

Employer Program
The Enfield Community Federal Credit Union offers an exceptional Employer Program called Select Employee Group (SEG). With this program an employer can offer their employees membership to our credit union. There is no cost to the employer to provide this employee benefit. We can provide all the information to you to promote this benefit such as flyers, posters, paycheck inserts, mailbox inserts and newsletter articles. Our representative can also schedule a sign up/orientation day and attend employee events. We are happy to work with you to accommodate your specific needs for promotion.

Annual Scholarship Award
The ECFCU gives out an Annual Scholarship Award in the Spring. The purpose of this scholarship is to recognize credit union members who have shown scholastic achievement and are pursuing higher education. Applicants must be graduating seniors who will be attending a 2-4 year institution of higher learning in the fall of 2015.
